Deleting your data in NCraft
NCraft has no accounts, and we keep no copy of your identity, groups or messages on our servers, so there is no account to close and nothing to request from us. Your data lives on your devices, and you delete it there. What our servers see is kept in memory only, for at most 75 minutes, and never written to disk (see the Privacy Policy).
Delete everything from a device
Open Profile and choose Forget identity on this device, then confirm. NCraft deletes from that device:
- your identity (the identity key, from which NCraft shows the 24 words);
- the encrypted database with your groups, history and settings, and its key;
- on Windows also: browsing history, cookies, site data and cache, the device key, the token of the local interface and (direct-download build) saved ssh servers.
A tick box, on by default, also deletes the backup of your 24 words from iCloud Keychain (Mac, iPhone) or Windows Credential Locker. The backup is shared by your devices on that account: if you untick the box, it stays and can bring the identity back, and a device that still holds the key saves it again. NCraft for Android keeps no backup in the cloud.
Repeat this on each of your devices. Your identity still exists wherever you have not forgotten it, and your 24 words are its key: whoever has them, or can open the account that holds their backup, holds your identity — keep or destroy the words accordingly.
Then remove the app
- Microsoft Store version: uninstalling removes NCraft's data folder. A device key in the TPM may remain; it cannot be used without the data.
- Google Play version and the Android app from dl.ncraft.live: uninstalling removes NCraft's data from the phone, together with its keys in the Android Keystore. NCraft keeps no Android backup.
- App Store version (Mac, iPhone) and direct downloads for Mac and Windows: uninstalling may leave data on the device, so use Forget identity first.
Delete something from your groups
- Your message: open its menu and delete it for everyone. It disappears on other members' devices when they are next online.
- Leave a group to stop receiving it.
- Group owners can remove members and content and close the group for everyone.
Copies that other members already received, saved or exported stay on their devices, as with any end-to-end encrypted app. We cannot delete them.
Data we may hold
If you wrote to support@ncraft.live or abuse@ncraft.live, we have your e-mail. To have it deleted, write to support@ncraft.live from the same address. Otherwise we keep e-mails for 12 months after the request or report is closed; reports of child sexual abuse are kept for as long as the law requires.
Data held by Apple, Google or Microsoft (store installs, crash reports, push addresses, test invitations) is managed in your Apple Account, Google Account or Microsoft account privacy settings.
This page is a place to talk. Open it in NCraft: notes, tasks and chat about it sit right next to it, in an NCraft group.
